The Challenge: Promoting Safety and Performance in the Medical Industry

In the medical sector, the performance of equipment used in healthcare facilities is critical to the success and safety of operators and their patients. Recently, a medical laser equipment manufacturing company approached Marco Rubber & Plastics looking for a high-temperature o-ring seal solution.

Application Requirements

The company specified that the material would need to meet the following requirements:

  • The material of the seal should be able to withstand high temperature
  • The seal material must not absorb laser energy
  • The material must not heat up when exposed to laser energy
  • The seal must provide excellent sealability
  • The seal must occupy a small footprint

The Solution: Providing a Proven High-Temperature O-Ring

The Marco Rubber & Plastics engineering team recommended an o-ring made with our Markez Z1407 compound — an unfilled perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) material designed for high-temperature applications that is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 600°F (315°C). Since the material is unfilled and translucent, it does not absorb the laser energy and provides excellent sealability.

The Result: The Right Material for the Right Performance

Extensive testing was performed on the high-temperature o-ring seal and material with excellent results. The seal met all the required parameters for performance and safety. We were pleased to supply this medical equipment manufacturer with the high-temperature o-ring solution it needed to deliver the performance its application and customers required.
