O-Rings and Seals for High-Temperature Applications

Seals for Long-Lasting Success in Exteme High-Temperatures.

O-Rings for High-Temperature Applications

Finding o-rings for high-temperature seals is always a challenge. High heat can cause the o-ring's material to break down, resulting in leaks, product contamination, and complete seal failure. For long-lasting success, o-rings that can withstand extreme high-temperature applications use materials like flexible graphite and FFKM.

It can be tempting to use inferior, cheaper materials, but this route ultimately becomes more expensive and time-consuming. Having the proper o-ring in place in a high-temperature application reduces downtime and maintenance costs.

Getting that o-ring is now easier than ever! Marco Rubber offers various materials, durometers, sizes, and customizable options for high-temperature o-rings. Our team is dedicated to making your experience easy, no matter the regulations or performance requirements.

We have the largest inventory of specialty and standard sealing solutions with rapid delivery. For custom solutions, we have some of the shortest lead times on the market.

High-Temperature O-Ring Materials

What happens when you use the wrong o-ring material in a high-temperature application? The temperature damages the o-ring, making it hard and brittle. It will no longer compress, return to its original shape (compression set), and preserve the seal. In turn, this often causes leaks or complete seal failure, leading to expensive downtimes and potentially dangerous messes. For industries that are sensitive to contamination, like food and beverage or pharmaceuticals, this can result in microscopic contamination as the o-ring breaks apart.

Below are the materials we most commonly recommend for extreme high-temperature applications.

The information on this page is to the best of our knowledge accurate and reliable. However, Marco Rubber makes no warranty, expressed or implied, that parts manufactured from this material will perform satisfactorily in the customer's application. It's the customer's responsibility to evaluate parts prior to use.

The temperature ranges presented on this page are approximations for dry air service only and should not be used to determine design specifications or end-use temperature limits. Actual temperature range of a compound in an end-use application is highly dependent on part type, hardware configuration, applied forces, chemical media, pressure and thermal cycling effects, and other factors. The most practical way of determining an end-use temperature range is testing in the actual application conditions. Consult a Marco Engineer for more details.
