Wool fat, also known as lanolin, is a natural wax-like substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of sheep. It is widely used in the cosmetics industry, as a moisturizer, emollient and protective barrier for skin. It is also used in a variety of other industries, including pharmaceuticals and leather tanning.
When rubber is exposed to lanolin, it can cause the rubber to swell, become brittle and crack. Additionally, the rubber may become discolored and soft, leading to further deterioration. Long-term exposure may cause rubber to become tacky and sticky, reducing its ability to form a tight seal. In some cases, the rubber may harden and become unable to form a seal at all.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
