White spirit, also known as mineral spirits or Stoddard solvent, is a petroleum-derived clear liquid with a mild odor. It is commonly used as a solvent in paints, varnishes, and other chemical-based products. It is also used as a degreasing agent and as a cleaning solvent for metal parts.
Common types of failures when rubber is exposed to white spirit are softening and swelling. If the rubber is exposed to white spirit for a prolonged period of time, it can cause the rubber to become soft and pliable. Swelling can occur if the white spirit is absorbed by the rubber, causing it to increase in size. Additionally, long-term exposure to white spirit can cause the rubber to become brittle and crack due to chemical degradation.
