WEMCO C, also known as ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (EGMBE), is a clear, colorless liquid with a low odor and low toxicity. It is widely used in a variety of industrial and commercial applications, including as a solvent, cleaning agent, and paint remover. Common uses of WEMCO C include degreasing, cleaning, and wetting agents in the paints and coatings, printing ink, adhesives, and chemical processing industries.
When rubber is exposed to WEMCO C, the most common type of failure is physical deterioration due to swelling and softening of the rubber. This is due to the chemical's high solvency, which can cause the rubber to become brittle, swell, and crack. Additionally, WEMCO C can cause degradation of rubber, leading to a decrease in strength and durability.
