Vegetable oils, also known as triglycerides, are a type of fat obtained from plants. Common uses for vegetable oils include cooking, baking, and as a base for cosmetics.
When exposed to vegetable oils, rubber can become brittle due to the high levels of saturated fat. The vegetable oil can also cause swelling, reducing elasticity and leading to eventual failure. Additionally, vegetable oils can cause discoloration and corrosion of the rubber material as well as an increase in the material's permeability.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
