Vaseline oil is another name for mineral oil, which is also known as liquid paraffin or paraffinum liquidum. Common uses for mineral oil include lubrication, rust prevention, and as a carrier for topical medications.
When exposed to mineral oil, rubber can become brittle over time due to the solvents in the mineral oil. The mineral oil can also cause the rubber to swell, reducing its elasticity and leading to eventual failure. In addition, the mineral oil can cause discoloration and corrosion of the rubber material.
