Tung oil, also known as Chinese wood oil, is a natural oil derived from the tung tree. It is commonly used as a finish for wood and furniture, as well as in paints, varnishes, and waxes. Other common uses for tung oil include waterproofing wood and as a base for wood stains and finishes.
When rubber is exposed to tung oil, it can cause the rubber to become brittle and lose its elasticity. The oil can also cause the rubber to swell and crack, leading to a breakdown of the rubber over time. In addition, tung oil can cause discoloration of the rubber, resulting in an unattractive finish. Long-term exposure to tung oil can lead to the rubber becoming permanently damaged and unusable.
