Transformer oil, also known as transmission fluid type A, is a mineral based oil used in both electrical and automotive applications. In electrical applications, transformer oil is used to insulate and cool transformers, while in automotive applications it is used to lubricate and cool transmissions.
When rubber is exposed to transformer oil, the rubber will start to degrade and lose its elasticity. This can lead to cracking and hardening, as well as the rubber becoming brittle and easily broken. Because of this, it is important to ensure that rubber seals and other components are designed to withstand the environment in which they are used, and that the correct type of rubber is selected for the application.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
