Therminol 55 is a synthetic heat transfer fluid commonly used in a variety of applications including heat transfer, cooling, and air conditioning. It is also known as polyalkylene glycol and is composed of a blend of mono- and di-glycols. Common uses for Therminol 55 include industrial process heating and cooling systems, HVAC, and refrigeration.
When rubber is exposed to Therminol 55, common types of failures can include cracking, hardening, discoloration, and delamination. Therminol 55 has the potential to degrade various rubber compounds, especially those with a low molecular weight. As a result, its use in contact with rubber components should be considered carefully and tested prior to implementation.
