Terpineol is also known as alpha-terpineol and 4-terpineol. It is an aromatic alcohol found in many essential oils and used in many industries such as perfumery, soap manufacturing, and flavoring.
When rubber is exposed to Terpineol, it can cause hardening, embrittlement, and cracking. This is due to the Terpineol reacting with the rubber and breaking down the cross-linking between the rubber molecules. This can lead to a loss of strength and elasticity in the rubber, making it more susceptible to failure.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
