Sulfuric acid, concentrated room temperature, is a highly concentrated form of sulfuric acid at ambient temperature. It is also sometimes referred to as “battery acid”, due to its frequent use in car batteries. Sulfuric acid, concentrated room temperature, is a versatile chemical, used in a variety of industrial processes, such as the manufacture of fertilizers, detergents, dyes, and explosives.
When rubber is exposed to sulfuric acid, concentrated room temperature, it can cause significant damage. The chemical can attack and corrode the rubber's molecular structure, leading to the formation of small cracks, as well as discoloration. In addition, the chemical can also lead to a decrease in the material's strength and flexibility, and can increase the rubber's permeability, allowing for the passage of water and other chemicals, which can further damage the rubber.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
