SULFUR CHLORIDE Resistant O-Rings and Seals
Sulfur chloride is also known as sulfur dichloride and is a yellow colored, corrosive and pungent smelling compound. It is used in the production of sulfuric acid, as a disinfectant, as a catalyst for chemical reactions, in the synthesis of drugs and as a bleaching agent.
When rubber comes in contact with sulfur chloride, it can cause the rubber to become brittle and crack. This is due to the sulfur chloride molecules binding to the rubber’s elastomeric polymers, which can cause the polymer to break down over time. In addition, sulfur chloride can also cause the rubber to become discolored as it reacts with the rubber’s stabilizers. The sulfur chloride can also cause the rubber to swell, which can further reduce the rubber’s lifespan.
