Sucrose, also known as table sugar or cane sugar, is a disaccharide composed of glucose and fructose. It is a sweetener used in many food and beverage products, and it is also used in the pharmaceutical and industrial sectors. Sucrose solutions are often used as a solvent in industrial applications, as well as in the production of cosmetics and personal care products.
When rubber is exposed to sucrose solutions, the sugar can cause the rubber to become sticky, brittle, and cracked. This can lead to decreased flexibility and seal integrity, and eventual failure of the rubber material. Additionally, the sugar can corrode the metal components found in rubber seals, leading to further failures.
