Soybean oil, also known as vegetable oil, is a common edible oil used in cooking and food production. It is used in a range of applications including baking, frying, salad dressings, and margarine. Soybean oil is also used in industrial applications such as plastics, resins, and lubricants.
When rubber is exposed to soybean oil it can cause softening of the rubber material. This softening can lead to loss of elasticity, strength, and durability, which can cause premature failure of the rubber seal or part. The softening can also lead to the rubber becoming sticky and having a decrease in temperature resistance. As well, the rubber may become brittle and crack when exposed to soybean oil.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
