Sodium peroxide is also known as disodium dioxide or tetraoxosulphate (VI) acid. It is an odorless, white crystalline solid with a strong oxidizing agent. Common uses include bleaching, water purification, and the manufacture of paper, dyes, and pharmaceuticals.
When rubber is exposed to sodium peroxide, it can cause the rubber to become brittle and start to crack. The chemical can also lead to discoloration and swelling of the rubber, making it less durable and more prone to failure. Additionally, the chemical can corrode rubber, slowly leading to holes and tears in the material.
