Sodium chloroacetate, also known as sodium monochloroacetate, is a widely used chemical compound in the pharmaceutical and food industries. It is used as a preservative, disinfectant, and for anti-fouling applications. Common types of failures when rubber is exposed to sodium chloroacetate include swelling, cracking, and embrittlement of the rubber material. The swelling and embrittlement of rubber caused by sodium chloroacetate can lead to reduced physical properties, such as tensile strength, elongation and compression set. The cracking of rubber can cause complete failure of the rubber material, especially when the rubber is exposed to high concentrations of the chemical.
