SHELL UMF, 5% AROMATIC, is a fuel oil blend used mainly in marine propulsion and generator applications. It is a combination of fuel oil and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents, used to reduce the viscosity of the fuel oil and allow for easier startup. Common uses for this blend include marine engines, power generation, and automotive engines.
When rubber is exposed to SHELL UMF, 5% AROMATIC, it can cause swelling, softening, and cracking of the rubber due to the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons. This can lead to a reduction in the seal's performance and life. Additionally, SHELL UMF, 5% AROMATIC can cause discolouration, embrittlement, and deterioration of the rubber due to thermal oxidation. In extreme cases, exposure to SHELL UMF, 5% AROMATIC can also cause complete failure of the rubber seal.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
