Propyl acetone, also known as propanone, is a colorless, volatile liquid with a fruity odor. It is commonly used as a solvent in the production of lacquers, varnishes, and plastics, as well as in the manufacture of perfumes and flavO-Rings.
Common types of failure when rubber is exposed to propyl acetone include swelling, cracking, and embrittlement. Rubber exposed to propyl acetone can become soft and swell, leading to increased permeation of the compound and decreased tensile strength. Additionally, some forms of rubber may become brittle and crack when exposed to propyl acetone resulting in a decrease in its mechanical properties. Additionally, some forms of rubber may become tacky or discolored when exposed to propyl acetone, resulting in a decrease in its aesthetic appeal.
