Propargyl alcohol, also known as 2-propyn-1-ol or prop-2-yn-1-ol, is an organic compound with a variety of uses. It is used in the production of pharmaceuticals, fragrances, dyes and other industrial products. It is also found in certain cosmetics and food products.
When rubber is exposed to propargyl alcohol, it can cause swelling, hardening, cracking, and discoloration. The rubber may also become brittle and may suffer from reduced tensile strength. Furthermore, the chemical can cause rubber to be less elastic and more prone to leakage and failure.
