Plating solution, lead, also known as lead electroplating, is a process used to coat materials with a thin layer of lead. Lead electroplating is commonly used in the automotive and electronics industries to protect surfaces from corrosion and wear. It is also used on plumbing fixtures and jewelry.
When rubber is exposed to plating solution, lead, the rubber can become brittle, resulting in a loss in elasticity. This can lead to cracking, swelling, and loss of adhesion between the rubber and substrate. Lead is also soluble in some rubber materials, resulting in the rubber becoming soft, gummy, and eventually deteriorating. In extreme cases, rubber components can become completely degraded.
