Plating solution, copper is also known as copper sulfate, copper sulphate, and cupric sulfate. It is a common industrial chemical used in electroplating, metal finishing, and treating organic materials such as wood. It is also used in the production of fertilizers and fungicides.
Common types of failure when rubber is exposed to copper sulfate include softening and accelerated aging. Softening occurs when the rubber is exposed to copper sulfate for long periods of time, resulting in decreased flexibility, increased brittleness and reduced tear strength. Accelerated aging of rubber occurs due to the corrosion of the rubber caused by the copper sulfate, leading to degradation and decreased performance.
