Piperidine is an organic compound with the molecular formula C5H11N. Commonly used as a base in the production of pharmaceuticals, piperidine is also used as a solvent and in the manufacture of agricultural chemicals and fuel additives.
When exposed to piperidine, rubber can become hard and brittle, leading to cracking and eventual failure. Additionally, piperidine can cause the rubber to swell and become soft and porous, which can lead to leaks or complete failure. In extreme cases, piperidine can cause the rubber to become tacky and sticky, making it difficult to handle and process.
