PINE OIL Resistant O-Rings and Seals

Pine oil, also known as turpentine oil, is an essential oil derived from the distillation of the needles and twigs of certain species of pine tree. It is widely used as a solvent and cleaning agent in industrial applications, as well as a disinfectant in medical and dental settings. It is also used as a flavoring agent in many food and beverage products.

When rubber is exposed to pine oil, it can experience several types of failure. These include swelling, cracking, hardening, and discoloration. Swelling occurs when the oil penetrates the rubber material, causing it to become soft and malleable. Cracking occurs when the oil weakens the rubber, causing it to become brittle. Hardening occurs when the oil evaporates and leaves behind a hard residue. Discoloration happens when the oil interacts with the rubber, causing it to take on a yellowish or brownish hue. In some cases, the oil can even cause the rubber to break down and disintegrate.
