Phosphoric acid, also known as orthophosphoric acid or phosphoric(V) acid, is a mineral acid commonly used in various industrial processes. It is used in food and beverage production, in detergents, and as a rust inhibitor. It is also used in the production of fertilizers, metal treatments, and water treatment.
When rubber is exposed to concentrated phosphoric acid, it can cause severe swelling of the rubber material and can lead to cracking and breakdown of the rubber. Additionally, when used in combination with other chemicals, it can accelerate degradation of the rubber. The rubber may also become brittle and crack prematurely due to the acidic nature of the phosphoric acid.
