Phenetole, also known as para-methoxystyrene, is an aromatic compound that is used as an intermediate in the production of plastic and rubber products. It is also used as an additive in fragrances and perfumes, as well as in the production of adhesives, coatings, and inks.
When exposed to phenetole, rubber can become hard, brittle, and prone to cracking and tearing. In extreme cases, phenetole can also cause swelling and deformations in rubber. Additionally, phenetole can cause rubber to become discolored and brittle, leading to eventual failure.
