Petrol, also known as gasoline, is a petroleum-based fuel used mainly for transportation and as a fuel in small engines. It is also used in the production of some rubber and plastic seals. Common uses for petrol include fuel for automobiles, motorcycles, boats, and lawn mowers.
When rubber is exposed to petrol, it can become softened, swell or shrink, and can become brittle, leading to cracking and failure. Additionally, the rubber can be prone to accelerated aging, which can cause the rubber to become hard and brittle over time. It can also become susceptible to cracking and tearing due to exposure to the high temperatures of engine exhaust.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
