Pentane, 30methyl is also known as methylcyclopentane, isohexane and neohexane. It is a flammable hydrocarbon with a colorless, odorless and combustible liquid at room temperature. Pentane, 30methyl is used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of plastics, rubbers, synthetic fibers and drugs. It is also used as a solvent, cleaning agent and fuel component.
When exposed to pentane, 30methyl, rubber can experience a process of swelling, cracking, hardening and embrittlement. This is due to the solvent action of pentane, 30methyl, which can soften and solvate rubber, leading to swelling, cracking and other physical damage. Long-term exposure can lead to hardening and embrittlement of rubber due to the penetration of the solvent through its molecular structure.
