Paraffin oil, also known as petroleum jelly or soft paraffin, is a byproduct of the petroleum industry, and is used in a variety of industries and applications. It is used as a lubricant, a waterproof and protective coating, and a base for making soaps, waxes and cosmetics.
Paraffin oil can be damaging to rubber due to its low flash point of around 300 degrees Fahrenheit. This means that the oil can easily ignite if exposed to high temperatures, which can cause rubber to become brittle or crack. Additionally, high concentrations of paraffin oil can soften rubber and cause it to lose its shape and flexibility, which can lead to cracking, leaking, and eventual failure.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
