Palmitic acid is also known as hexadecanoic acid and is commonly used as a lubricant and surfactant in the chemical, cosmetics and food industries. It is also used to make soaps, waxes, and other products. When rubber is exposed to palmitic acid, it can cause swelling, cracking, and discoloration of the rubber. Additionally, rubber can become brittle and weakened, leading to premature failure.
