Nicotinamide, also known as niacinamide, is a form of vitamin B3 and is used in a variety of industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and health supplements. Common uses include helping to reduce cholesterol levels, managing inflammation, and improving energy levels.
When rubber is exposed to nicotinamide, the main type of failure is accelerated aging and cracking caused by plasticizer migration. This occurs when plasticizer molecules within the rubber migrate out of the rubber, causing it to become more brittle and crack more easily. Additionally, exposure to high concentrations of nicotinamide can cause discoloration of the rubber.
