Monomethylamine, also known as MMA, is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. It is a widely used chemical in industrial processes, such as the production of pesticides and fertilizer, as well as in the manufacture of plastics, dyes, and pharmaceuticals.
When rubber is exposed to monomethylamine, it can cause swelling, softening, cracking, and embrittlement due to the breakdown of the rubber's polymer chains. Monomethylamine can also cause discoloration and corrosion due to its reaction with the rubber's additives, leading to a decrease in the rubber's performance characteristics.
