MIL-PRF-07808A is an elastomeric sealant used mainly in the aerospace industry. It is also known as Permabond MIL-PRF-07808A, MIL-PRF-07808, and MIL-A-8625 Type II silicone-based sealant. The primary use of this elastomeric sealant is to provide a flexible and waterproof sealant to aircraft components, such as fuel tanks and hydraulic lines.
When rubber is exposed to MIL-PRF-07808A, the most common types of failures include swelling, hardening, softening, and cracking. Swelling of rubber can cause the sealant to break and weaken, leading to leakage of fluids or air. Hardening of rubber can lead to decreased flexibility and increased rigidity, while softening can cause rubber seals to become brittle and prone to cracking. Cracking of rubber can lead to the sealant becoming brittle and eventually failing.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
