MIL-J-05161 is a fuel oil-based lubricant used primarily in aircraft and military applications. Common uses include lubricating moving parts of engines, as well as being used as a hydraulic fluid.
When rubber is exposed to MIL-J-05161, it can quickly soften, swell, and become brittle. The rubber can also suffer from accelerated degradation and cracking due to the oil-based lubricant. If the rubber is exposed to high temperatures, the degradation and cracking can be accelerated even further. Additionally, the rubber can become less resistant to wear and tear, leading to a shorter lifespan and reduced performance.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
