MIL0G021568 is commonly referred to as benzyl alcohol, which is a clear liquid with a faint, pleasant odor. It is widely used as a preservative in personal care products, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverage products. It is also commonly used as a solvent in industrial processes.
When rubber is exposed to benzyl alcohol, common types of failures include cracking, softening, and accelerated aging. This is due to benzyl alcohol’s ability to act as a plasticizer, which means it can penetrate rubber and reduce its hardness and elasticity. Additionally, benzyl alcohol can interact with rubber additives and cause them to deteriorate, leading to further cracking and softening.
