Methyl Pentadiene, also known as Cyclopentadiene Methyl Ester, is an organic compound most commonly used as a monomer in the production of specialty polymers. It is also used in the synthesis of certain pharmaceuticals and as a solvent in the production of pesticides.
When rubber is exposed to Methyl Pentadiene, it can cause swelling and softening of the rubber, cracking, and embrittlement. In some cases, the swelling can be so extreme that it results in a loss of physical properties and ultimately product failure. In addition, the accelerated degradation of the rubber can lead to cracking and the formation of volatile organic compounds, which can cause health and safety risks.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
