Menthol is a naturally occurring organic compound found in mint and other plants. It is also known as Levomenthol and Neoisomenthol and is widely used in a variety of products ranging from toothpaste to medicines. In industry, it is often used as a flavor enhancer and as a fragrance ingredient in cosmetics and personal care products.
When rubber is exposed to menthol, it can cause hardening of the rubber, which can lead to cracking and reduced flexibility. Menthol can also cause rubber to become brittle and more prone to tearing and breaking. In extreme cases, the rubber can become completely rigid and unable to move at all. Additionally, menthol can cause the rubber to lose elasticity and the surface to become tacky.
