Lubricating oils, also known as SAE 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50, are petroleum-based oils used in a variety of automotive, industrial, and marine applications. They are used to reduce friction and improve the efficiency of moving parts and machinery, as well as to reduce wear and tear. They can also be used to make plastics, waxes, and other products.
Rubber materials exposed to lubricating oils can suffer from swelling, softening, hardening, cracking, or even complete failure. The rubber can become permanently weakened as a result of these changes, leading to decreased elasticity and an increased risk of cracking. Swelling of the rubber can also lead to reduced durability and performance. In extreme cases, the rubber can become permanently damaged.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
