Lubricating oils, crude and refined, are commonly used as lubricants in a variety of industries, such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing. They are also used as hydraulic fluids and as coolants in engines. In terms of common names, they are sometimes referred to as mineral oils, motor oils, and hydraulic fluids.
Rubber components exposed to lubricating oils, crude and refined, may suffer from swelling, hardening, and cracking. This is due to the oils acting as a plasticizer, causing the rubber to become more flexible. Oils may also cause rubber to become brittle and break down structurally, leading to further failures.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
