Lithium Chloride is also known as lithium chloride anhydrous, lithium dichloride, and lithium chloride monohydrate. It is a white, odorless powder which is used as a desiccant, an electrolyte in certain batteries, and in the manufacture of certain pharmaceuticals.
When rubber is exposed to Lithium Chloride, it may experience swelling, decreased tensile strength, and cracking. The presence of moisture in the environment can cause accelerated degradation due to the desiccating properties of lithium chloride. In addition, exposure to the chemical can cause the rubber to become brittle, discolor, and degrade prematurely.
