Lime bleach, also known as calcium hypochlorite, is a white powder used for a variety of industrial applications, including water purification and bleaching. It is also used as a disinfectant and in the manufacture of soaps and detergents. When exposed to rubber, lime bleach can cause severe degradation due to its strong oxidizing properties. Rubber is particularly vulnerable to chemical attack, leading to cracking, brittleness, discoloration, and ultimately loss of strength. In some cases, rubber exposed to lime bleach may become brittle and break down quickly.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
