IODINE PENTAFLUORIDE Resistant O-Rings and Seals
Iodine Pentafluoride, also known as IF5, is an inorganic compound composed of one iodine atom and five fluorine atoms. Common uses for IF5 include in the production of fluorine compounds, as a catalyst in chemical reactions, and as a reagent for organic synthesis.
When rubber is exposed to IF5, common types of failure can include cracking, hardening, and discoloration. IF5 can also corrode rubber over time, leading to a weakened rubber material. In some cases, IF5 can cause rubber to become brittle and break off in pieces. It is important to use the right type of rubber when handling IF5, as some rubber materials are more resistant to the chemical than others.
