Hydroquinone, also known as benzene-1,4-diol, is a commonly used organic compound with a wide range of applications in various industries, such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, photography, and printing. It is used as a bleaching agent, preservative, and dye-reducing agent.
When rubber is exposed to hydroquinone, it can cause a number of different types of failures. The chemical can cause the rubber to swell, causing it to become brittle, shrink, or crack. It can also cause the rubber to degrade, leading to a loss of properties such as tensile strength, elongation, and tear resistance. In extreme cases, hydroquinone can cause complete breakdown of the rubber material.
