HYDROGEN FLUORIDE Resistant O-Rings and Seals

Hydrogen fluoride (also known as hydrofluoric acid or HF) is an extremely corrosive and toxic inorganic compound that is used in a variety of industries, including the production of fertilizers, petroleum refining, electroplating, and glass etching.

Common types of failures when rubber is exposed to hydrogen fluoride include discoloration, swelling, cracking, and embrittlement due to the corrosive nature of the acid. Additionally, rubber seals exposed to hydrogen fluoride may become brittle and prone to cracking or tearing over time, as the acid slowly breaks down the rubber material. Additionally, exposure to hydrogen fluoride may cause the rubber seal to swell or become distorted due to its acidic properties.
