HYDROCHLORIC ACID, CONCENTRATED Resistant O-Rings and Seals
Concentrated hydrochloric acid, also known as fuming hydrochloric acid, is a highly corrosive, colorless to yellow-tinged liquid with an intensely pungent odor. It is commonly used in the production of inorganic chemicals, metal processing, and the manufacture of dyes and pigments.
When rubber is exposed to concentrated hydrochloric acid, the rubber may experience a decrease in tensile strength, elongation, and tear strength. In addition, the rubber seal can become brittle, resulting in cracks and fractures. The rubber seal can also become discolored and pitted due to corrosion from the acid. The rubber seal may also swell and soften due to the acid.
