Hexane, also known as n-Hexane, is a hydrocarbon with the chemical formula C6H14. It is a volatile and flammable liquid, and is used as a solvent in many industrial processes. Common uses of hexane include the extraction of edible oils, the production of rubber, and as a solvent in the production of paint, lacquer, and varnish.
When rubber is exposed to hexane, the hydrocarbon can cause the rubber to become brittle and break down over time. The hydrocarbon can also cause the rubber to become discolored and emit an unpleasant odor. Additionally, the chemical can cause the rubber to become more prone to cracking, tearing, and other forms of damage.
