Hexamethylene, also known as 1,6-hexanediol, is a colorless, odorless organic compound. It is commonly used as a raw material in the production of plastics, polyesters, and varnishes.
When rubber is exposed to hexamethylene, it can cause swelling, leading to distortion and reduced performance. The material can become brittle and break down due to oxidation, and the rubber may become sticky, leading to further issues with sealing capabilities. In extreme cases, the material may experience irreversible damage.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
