Halothane is a general anesthetic used for medical and surgical procedures. It is also known as Fluothane, Fluorothane, Ethrane and Halocarbon. Halothane is used in the medical industry for anesthesia, as well as for pain relief in dentistry and veterinary medicine.
Halothane has a low resistance to certain chemicals, such as oils, alcohols and hydrocarbons. When rubber is exposed to Halothane, it can cause swelling, cracking, softening and embrittlement. In extreme cases, the rubber may even become brittle and crack. This can cause the rubber to become ineffective and can lead to product failure or the release of hazardous chemicals.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
