Ferrous sulfate, also known as iron sulfate, is a chemical compound which is used for various industrial and medical applications. In industrial applications, ferrous sulfate is commonly used as a fertilizer, and for water treatment purposes. In medical applications, ferrous sulfate is commonly used to treat iron deficiency anemia, as well as to supplement iron in the diet. Common types of rubber failure when exposed to ferrous sulfate include oxidation, discoloration, swelling, cracking, and hardening. Additionally, ferrous sulfate can cause rubber to become brittle over time, leading to potential breakage.
