FC 43 is also known as Perfluorobutanesulfonic acid (PFBS) and is a fluorinated surfactant used in applications such as firefighting foams, oil and water repellents, stain-resistant coatings, and manufacturing of electronics.
When rubber is exposed to PFBS, it can lead to swelling, cracking, and accelerated degradation of the rubber. Additionally, the rubber may become brittle and, in some cases, swell to the point of failure. Prolonged exposure can cause the rubber to become brittle and suffer from accelerated degradation, leading to premature failure.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
